Challenge
Decentralized hot water systems in apartment buildings and hotels are difficult to maintain. Service technicians had to travel on-site to diagnose problems. While Swissframe Thermos devices save up to 50% energy in hot water preparation – for remote maintenance and optimization, they needed to be networked.
Solution
As part of an Innosuisse project with FHNW:
- Refactoring of embedded software (.NET 8.0 on Raspberry Pi)
- AWS IoT connectivity with CloudFormation for secure device communication
- Visualization and dashboards with QuickSight and Timestream
- Automation solution for device setup without manual intervention (PXE Boot, Ansible)
- Integration of additional sensors and actuators
Our Contribution
- Complete refactoring of control software on Raspberry Pi (.NET)
- Extension of functionality with additional sensors and actuators
- Setup of AWS IoT infrastructure with CloudFormation
- Development of automation solution for device setup without manual intervention
- Visualization with QuickSight and Timestream
- Support for development and operations
